Behind the Scenes of "Balance"

Family and Work
People sometimes ask how I do it all.

Here’s the truth:
I don’t.

A typical day looks like this:
• I’m up early trying to squeeze in cold exposure, push-ups, and some kind of focus
• While thinking about 2 businesses
• While texting my daughter to make sure she’s up for class
• While drinking a hydrogen water and reminding myself to breathe

I answer emails from a supplier, send a quote for a fleet deal, print JP Smitty labels, prep a delivery run, and somewhere in there I remind myself I still haven’t booked a doctor’s appointment I’ve been “meaning to” for a month.

Some days I crush it.
Some days I fake it.
Most days I do a little of both.

Then I pick up my daughter from school and we talk about the dog, or dinner, or what she needs from me today and that’s the moment that grounds me again.

I try to be the man who’s present.
I try to be the man who protects his time.
I try to take care of my health, support my wife, check in on my oldest daughter, and still make sure the bills get paid and the sauce gets bottled.

Here’s what I’m learning:

Balance isn’t a finish line.
It’s a daily decision.

Some days that means saying no to work at 6 PM.
Some days that means saying no to guilt at 10 PM.
Some days that means giving myself grace when I miss the mark.

I’m still working on it.
But I’m proud of what I’m building even if the behind the scenes looks like a lot more chaos than people think.
