How Important Is Your Routine?
Nov 27, 2025
They say it takes 21 days to build a habit.
I’m here to tell you it’s a lot harder than that.
Most of us already have a “routine” without even realizing it.
Wake up.
Shower.
Brush your teeth.
Coffee.
Start the day.
But real self-care? Real intentionality?
That’s a different level.
696 days ago, I started cold plunging. Not because it was trendy but because I needed something I wouldn’t negotiate with. It became my anchor.
Since then, I’ve tried to build a true morning routine:
a 9-minute movement/lymphatic warm-up,
20 push-ups × 3 sets,
supplements with hydrogen water,
Baja Gold sea salt, cayenne, turmeric, and
on the good days,
a full gym session with cardio,
weights,
stretching, and
10 minutes in the sauna.
And on the great days when I get up that extra 30 minutes earlier I add the part of the routine that feeds my mind: I start with The Daily Stoic.
Just a few paragraphs, but some mornings it hits exactly where I am. Other days, it’s simply a solid reminder of how to show up in life. Then I try to read one chapter from a business book or a self-development book, something that challenges me, sharpens me, or gives me one idea I can use.
I’m not perfect. Some mornings my mind tells me: “You don’t need all this. The cold plunge was enough.” And some days… it wins. But most days, I win. And on those days the days I do everything I promised myself I’m clearer. Calmer.
More focused.
More myself.
It’s hard to stay consistent. It’s hard to fight the voice that tells you to skip the work. Now that I have just had my 54th birthday, one thing has become very clear: My health and my daily movement are the most important investments I can make.
Because I still have so much to live for: Watching my daughters graduate from university. Walking them down the aisle. Holding my first grandchild. And falling in love with my wife over and over again.
So, how important is your routine?
For me… It’s everything.
